From Chichester to London
The road called Stane Street runs 58 miles from Chichester to London. Built in the first century by the Romans after their invasion of England, for the quick movement of goods and people from the English Channel to the new capitol of Roman Britain. After the Romans left in the fourth century, parts of the road fell into disrepair or was used used as building materials for newer buildings or simply disappeared under fields and swamps.
Take a tour along the 58 miles through some of the most beautiful countryside and villages in England. Here you will find pictures, stories and tales from the earliest times to the present day. Walk in the steps of soldiers, peasants, pilgrims, monks and traders. Enjoy the stories and find some of your own. Enjoy the walk.
